SUMMARY:Public Information Meeting – What will Daylighting the Sawmill River look like?
DESCRIPTION:There have been a number of decisions made regarding Daylighting the Sawmill River. This includes a full report on how fish passage will be integrated when the storm sewer from Sullivan’s Pond to the Halifax Harbour is replaced. While sections of the engineered stream will be daylit\, the final design for this project has not yet been decided. One delay has been due to on-going discussions regarding the intersection of Alderney Drive and Portland Street and the possibly of rerouting and reducing traffic lanes. The changes to this intersection could result in additional land becoming available providing the needed space for including naturalised components to parts of the Sawmill River. The purpose of this Public Information Meeting is to allow Dartmouth and Halifax residents to gain a better understanding of these proposed changes and how they could impact the final design for the Sawmill River. \n  \nThe Public Information Meeting will have representatives from the Halifax Regional Municipality\, Halifax Water\, and the Ecology Action Centre speak about the future of this project in light of infrastructure and traffic upgrades to downtown Dartmouth. In addition\, representatives from the Shubenacadie Canal Commission\, the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission\, Halifax Cycling Coalition\, and Sackville River Association will be present to provide information about projects they are involved with in the area to residents. \n  \nAgenda \n6:30-7:30           The evening will begin with an information session. The public is invited to visit the various information tables from each of the invited organisations. \n7:30 – 8pm       Short 8-10 minute presentations by the city of Halifax\, Halifax Water\, and Ecology Action Centre. \n8 – 8:30pm       Audience members will be invited to participate in a Q&A with the speakers and representatives from the invited organisations. \n

SUMMARY:The Bechdel Test Film Fest
DESCRIPTION:South House\, in partnership with the Art Bar (a rad space that is co-run by the The Khyber and Anna Leonowens Gallery)\, will be showing a series of films over the summer with one simple goal in mind: to see if they pass the Bechdel Film Test. Haven’t heard of this iconic test by Allison Bechdel? \nThe Bechdel Test rules:\n1. Are there are least two women?\n2. Do they talk to each other?\n3. About something other than a man? \nThis iconic feminist fim test is very simple\, yet painfully few films pass it. These screenings will be free\, and followed by discussion about feminist film\, representation of women\, trans folks\, non-binary & gender-nonconformist folx\, and femmes of all genders in both mainstream and independent media\, and pop culture in general! \nWhen: first screening will happen on June 23rd at 6pm\nWhere: the NSCAD Art Bar \n~~list of film titles TBA~~~ \nAccess info:\nThe bar is wheelchair accessible through the two front door entrances. The closest wheelchair-accessible washrooms are in the Granville Mall through the Hollis St entrance.
