SUMMARY:Halifax: Delivering Community Power
DESCRIPTION:How postal workers are moving public services to climate action \nPostal workers have put forward a bold vision to make Canada Post into an engine for a climate-friendly economy by investing in green jobs that reduce emissions while benefitting low-income and rural communities. \nNow\, the Harper-appointed administration of Canada Post is planning to lock them out of their jobs in July\, while a public review decides the future of this profitable public service. \nDru Jay from Friends of Public Services and a representative from CUPW will discuss the postal workers’ vision and the alliance that’s backing it. Opportunities for networking and discussion will follow a brief presentation. \nHelp us create a postal service for the 21st century! Visitwww.deliveringcommunitypower.ca and www.publicservices.ca for more information \nSponsors: Friends of Public Services\, CUPW Nova Local\, Leap Manifesto\, RankandFile.ca\, Council of Canadians

SUMMARY:Candlelight vigil for Iraq
DESCRIPTION:A Candlelight Vigil is being organized for Tuesday night to commemorate\, respect and honor the victims of the violent and obscene tragedies that took place in Baghdad\, Iraq on Sunday.\nPlease join for a peaceful\, silent vigil to mourn the senseless violence and loss of life Iraq and to stand together to show support as global citizens\, united under our shared values of Humanity \nWe will gather at the corner of Spring Garden Rd and South Park St in silence.\nThis is a family-friendly event\, and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.\nThis is NOT a political nor is it a religious event\, rather it is an opportunity to gather and unite individuals\, families\, and all of our international residents in Halifax.\nThis is a chance to take a stand\, to say “NO” to violence and fear.\nIt is an opportunity for the greater community to stand together in solidarity for the purpose of peace and justice and to demonstrate human and spiritual respect. \nA week ago a suicide truck bomb ripped through Baghdad\, families are still hoping that rescuers searching through the rubble can locate the bodies of their loved ones.\nThe Saturday night attack on a busy shopping district was the deadliest single incident in the Iraq’s war-weary capital in years\, killing more than 300 people.\nCrews are still on the scene in the Karrada neighbourhood where the blast occurred\, trying to pull bodies from the devastation.\nAnd 81 of the bodies are so charred\, DNA testing will need to be conducted in order to identify them.\nOne couple at the scene was searching for their teenage son who’d gone to a cafe with his friends to celebrate his birthday.\nAnother man was looking for five of his relatives\, including children\, who were buying new clothes for Eid-al-Fitr – the celebration that marks the end of Ramadan.\nISIS claimed responsibility for the attack. It was the latest in a string of assaults during the holy month for Muslims\, a period of fasting and prayer\, and also a time when jihadists launch operations against those they regard as their enemies.
