ACORN members who have been directly affected by these policies will be speaking about their experiences and their demands on the new Premier. \n\n\n\nWHAT: Demonstration and Press Conference \n\n\n\nWHEN: Saturday\, January 30th at 12:15pm \n\n\n\nWHERE: One Government Place – 1713 Barrington St. Halifax \n\n\n\nJanice Pace\, Co-Chair of the Halifax-Peninsula Chapter and a single mother on Income Assistance explains: “ACORN’s Provincial platform has long included housing recommendations like Rent Control with Vacancy Control\, Inclusionary Zoning\, and Banning Fixed-Term Leases. As well as our COVID-19 demands to ban evictions and put those who are sleeping on the streets or in shelters into vacant hotels. But we also understand these issues do not exist in a vacuum. Our members will be renewing calls to immediately raise the rates of Income Assistance and Disability to a living standard\, and raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.” \n\n\n\nJanice\, among others\, will be speaking on Saturday and demonstrating along with ACORN members from across the city.
