DESCRIPTION:Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/505639074172159/ \n\n\n\nAs always – Zoom link will be emailed to you!This Law Hour’s speaker is El Jones who will be speaking about Black women in the justice system. \n\n\n\nEl Jones is a spoken word poet\, an educator\, journalist\, and community activist living in African Nova Scotia. She was the fifth Poet Laureate of Halifax. In 2016\, El was a recipient of the Burnley “Rocky” Jones human rights award for her community work and work in prison justice. She is a co-founder of the Black Power Hour\, a live radio show with incarcerated people on CKDU that creates space for people inside to share their creative work and discuss contemporary social and political issues. El was appointed the Nancy’s Chair of Women’s Studies at Mount Saint Vincent University for the 2017-2019 term. She is a winner of two Atlantic Journalism gold awards in 2018 and 2019. Her book of spoken word poetry\, Live from the Afrikan Resistance! was published by Roseway Press in 2014. \n\n\n\nWe will be donating to Coverdale\, which is an organization that supports women and gender diverse people who are involved or at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system: https://www.coverdale.ca/

The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity will be hosting a virtual history conference for youth to learn about their local and provincial history. There will be a short workshop section hosted by the CCGSD with virtual take-home resources. Joining us as the keynote speaker is Daniel MacKay. \n\n\n\nWe look forward to learning with you on March 11th from 3:00-4:30 PM AST.
