SUMMARY:Rally: Save Owls Head
DESCRIPTION:Demonstration of SolidarityThursday\, April 1 at 9:30 AMOutside the Law Courts in Halifax (1815 Upper Water Street)Event Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/756946498284233<https://www.facebook.com/events/756946498284233> \n\n\n\nPlease join us on Thursday in support of Owls Head Provincial Park.Concerned citizens are invited to gather outside the Law Courts insolidarity with applicants Bob Bancroft & Eastern Shore Forest WatchAssociation\, as they challenge the secret delisting & Letter of Offer incourt. This judicial review is not about golf; it’s about transparency\,procedural fairness\, and public consultation. \n\n\n\nIn Nova Scotia\, nearly half of our 206 provincial parks are awaitingdesignation\, the same way that Owls Head Provincial Park was before itwas secretly delisted. This sets a dangerous precedent that couldfurther jeopardize our protected areas network. \n\n\n\nPlease come to show your support for our parks and protected areas ifyou can. If you’re not comfortable due to Covid-19\, you can show yoursupport by contacting Premier Rankin (PREMIER@novascotia.ca<PREMIER@novascotia.ca>) and your MLA(https://nslegislature.ca/members/profiles/contact<https://nslegislature.ca/members/profiles/contact>). \n\n\n\nMore information is available on our website:https://saveowlshead.org/demonstration-of-solidarity-thursday-april-1/<https://saveowlshead.org/demonstration-of-solidarity-thursday-april-1/>

SUMMARY:Demonstration of solidarity: Save Little Harbour/Owls Head from becoming golf courses
DESCRIPTION:Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/756946498284233/ \n\n\n\nOn the morning of April 1\, 2021\, we will gather at “The Law Courts”\,1815 Upper Water St. in support of the applicants who are trying to save Owls Head Provincial Park. \n\n\n\nLawyer Jamie Simpson is representing Bob Bancroft & Eastern Shore Forest Watch Association\, as they challenge two separate secret decisions by (then Minister of Lands and Forestry) Iain Rankin: The decision to secretly delist Owls Head Provincial Park on March 13\, 2019 and the decision to entertain a Letter of Offer with a developer on December 16\, 2019. \n\n\n\nThe government claims that Owls Head Provincial Park was never protected. But for the last 45 years\, numerous government policies and documents have identified it as a park. As Justice Coady wrote in his decision allowing this lawsuit to go forward\, “The public had every reason to assume Owl’s Head was a Provincial Park and\, therefore\, attracted protections not available on Crown lands.” (Bancroft v. Nova Scotia (Land and Forestry) 2020 NSSC 214)In solidarity with the applicants’ judicial review\, we will have a small gathering of supporters outside the courthouse on the morning of April 1\, 2021. The court case starts at 9:30 AM. \n\n\n\nThe outdoor gathering will be socially distanced and supporters will need to wear masks. \n\n\n\nStop the Sale. \n\n\n\nSave Owls Head Provincial Park.Social distancing guidelines:You need to follow social distancing guidelines to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. This means limiting your contact with other people and keeping a physical distance of 2 metres (6 feet) away from others. \n\n\n\nTo protect yourself and others you need to: \n\n\n\nStay 2 metres (6 feet) away from other people as much as possible\, unless you’re in your close social group keep your close social group consistent\, as much as possible make informed choices about who and how to interact with each other (consider age\, occupation and health conditions) make sure you follow social distancing guidelines for gathering limits\, businesses\, organizations and workplaces. The Youth Rally\, Rally at North Mountain and the last rally at “The Law Courts” were a success. Stay within your own group\, stay within 6 feet away from each group and wear a mask. We have done this three times with much success. \n\n\n\nWe will keep an eye on any changes to the social distancing guidelines and if we need to cancel we will at the time. For anyone who can’t attend\, you can email or snail mail support letters to Lawyer Jamie Simpson\, Eastern Shore Forest Watch Association and Bob Bancroft.

SUMMARY:EMERGENCY RALLY in front of HPD Headquarters
DESCRIPTION:KJIPUKTUK (Halifax) – Many African Nova Scotians continue to have their rights violated by those said to “Serve and Protect” \n\n\n\nRecently a video surfaced showing a HPD Police Officer apparently threatening to shot an unarmed African Nova Scotian male with hands held high above his head. This apparent abuse of power seems to have become commonplace with a number of HPD Police Officer without any meaning discipline or deterrence.    \n\n\n\nYet\, Halifax Regional Police Chief Dan Kinsella apologized on Nov 29\, 2019\, to the African Nova Scotian community for illegal street checks based on racism and yet there has been no meaningful action or retraining taken to change the negative mindset of that seems to be prevalent among a number of officers. \n\n\n\nMany African Nova Scotians have been and continue to be traumatized by the racism and hate they continue to endure on a daily basis.  \n\n\n\nPolice like all citizens must be held accountable for their actions\, and should not be putting community members at risk in any way shape or form. \n\n\n\nMany African Nova Scotians do not even make it to first base in the complaint process and “asking Colonel Sanders to feel or have compassion for chickens “ does not seem to be working. \n\n\n\nBased on the most recent display of excessive force and outward gross disrespect\, a number of African Nova Scotians will hold an EMERGENCY RALLY in front of HPD Headquarters on Gottingen Street in Halifax this Thursday April 01\, 2021\, at 2pm. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact Raymond Sheppard raymondsheppard@eastlink.ca
