SUMMARY:Press Conference: Advocates call for urgent action to improve vaccine access for migrants in Nova Scotia
DESCRIPTION:Photo: Screenshot from No one is illegal-Halifax/Kipuktuk video calling for vaccine access for migrants in Nova Scotia \n\n\n\nWHEN: Wednesday\, June 9th @ 11AM \n\n\n\nWHERE: Online via YouTube Live and Facebook Live. Stay tuned here for more details and updates.  \n\n\n\nWHO: Speakers will include Stacey Gomez (No one is illegal – Halifax/Kjipuktuk\, Migrant Worker Rights Working Group)\, Shiva Nourpanah (Board member\, Halifax Refugee Clinic); Tari Ajadi (PhD student in Political Science at Dalhousie University) through a prerecorded video; and Monika Dutt (Public Health and Family Physician\, Ally Centre of Cape Breton) \n\n\n\nWhile the Nova Scotia government has stated that anyone in the province over the age of 12 is able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine\, there remain ongoing barriers for migrants in the current vaccine roll-out plan. Such barriers reflect ongoing and pervasive gaps in health care access for migrants\, including people without migration status\, refugee claimants\, international students and migrant workers.  \n\n\n\nAdvocates and health experts are calling for immediate action to ensure a safe\, accessible and just vaccine plan that leaves no one behind. A campaign video released on June 7th by the migrant justice organization No one is illegal – Halifax/Kjiputuk highlights widespread community support for vaccine access for all.  \n\n\n\n– 30 –  \n\n\n\nMedia Contact: \n\n\n\nNo One is Illegal – Halifax/Kjipuktuk \n\n\n\nNOII.Hfx@gmail.com  \n\n\n\nMedia Coverage: \n\n\n\nNova Scotia urged to deliver on promise of prioritizing migrant workers for COVID-19 vaccine \n\n\n\nToo many barriers to vaccine access for migrants\, open letter states \n\n\n\nIn Nova Scotia undocumented migrants may miss out on vaccination\, group fears
