BIPOCSS youth cafe is a drop in for Black, Indigenous, People of Colour & Queer/2SLGBTQ+ youth 14 and up on the South Shore every Friday at The Biscuit Eater Cafe & Books in Mahone Bay!

This Friday, March 26 we have a special guest Deirdre Lee joining us to share some of her poetry, talk about poeming & writing poems of our own. Space is limited to 15 and Deirdre’s performance will be filmed so please let us know if you will be coming at bipocss@gmail.com 🖤

Deirdre Lee is a poet, performer & maker of art, medicines & magic.

Her work is intertwined with her complicated & sometimes confusing reality as a racialized, neurodivergent woman, & explores her perspectives on identity & healing.

Deirdre has performed her poetry across Turtle Island, including numerous appearances at both the Verses Festival of Words & the Canadian Festival Of Spoken Word. She was the co-creator of the 2018 Nocturne Beacon project “Mi’kma’ki Nights” & a finalist at the 2019 Canadian Individual Poetry Slam. Deirdre has appeared at Word On the Street as well as performing with Zuppa Theatre. Her most recent poem can be found in the Indigenous Sovereignty issue of Canadian Art Magazine.

When she is not writing or performing, Deirdre beads, sings to her cats & bakes the best granola you’ve never had.

Deirdre lives in Kjipuktuk, Mi’kma’ki, the traditional & unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq & the home of Black arrivants for over three centuries.
