Launch: Green Rights: The Human Right to a Healthy World

The Sierra Club Canada Foundation and TheGreenInterview.com are pleased to announce the release of the documentary film Green Rights: The Human Right to a Healthy World, and the companion book Warrior Lawyers: From Manila to Manhattan, Attorneys for the Earth, by Silver Donald Cameron.

The launch of the film will take place on September 25, 2016, at 2:00 at Mount St. Vincent University, 166 Bedford Highway, Halifax. The event will be attended by writer and executive producer Silver DonaldCameron, and also by director and producer Chris Beckett. A question and answer session will follow thescreening. Admission is by donation.

“It’s a fabulous film,” said Sierra’s Gretchen Fitzgerald. “Silver Donald and Chris have been working on it for four solid years, travelling all over the world to collect stories about the remarkable impact of environmental rights on the lives of people in the countries where those rights are recognized. Which is most countries. But not Canada or the United States.”

University-sponsored screenings in Nova Scotia will also take place at Acadia University in Wolfville, NS, at 7:00 on September 19, in 244 Beveridge Hall, and at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS, at 7:00 on September 28 in the Schwartz Auditorium. These screenings are both open to the public.

The official national premiere of Green Rights will take place in Ottawa on October 4. The Hon. Senator George Furey, Speaker of the Senate of Canada, will host a celebratory reception in his chambers at 4:00 PM. A public screening in the Pearson ballroom of the Lord Elgin Hotel will follow.

Screenings are also scheduled at The Screening Room in Kingston, ON, on October 6; at Heliconian Hall in Toronto on October 12; at the University of Waterloo on October 17; at the University of Guelph onOctober 18; at St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto on October 19; at the Finnish Labour Temple in Thunder Bay on October 24; at the University of Manitoba on October 27, and at the Unitarian Church of Calgary on October 30. Silver Donald Cameron will attend all of these events, and autographed copies of Warrior Lawyers will be available at all screenings. On this same national tour Dr. Cameron will be participating in classes and seminars and delivering guest lectures based on Warrior Lawyers at 12 Canadian universities, including four law schools. The interviews included in the book are among the nearly 100 interviews with global environmental giants available in video, audio and text at www.TheGreenInterview.com.

Additional screenings and lectures are planned for British Columbia, Washington and Oregon during the winter. Dr. Cameron will be based in Vancouver from November through April. The tour concludes the overall Green Rights project (www.GreenRights.com) on which Sierra and The Green Interview have been engaged since 2013. TheGreenInterview.com continues as a monthly subscription website, and the film can also be streamed from that site.
