Once: Africville Stories: A play presentation by Voices Black Theatre Ensemble

August 19, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Once: Africville Stories

David Woods’ multiple award-winning dramatization of the people and events of Africville- the historic Black community destroyed by the City of Halifax in the name of urban development in the 1960’s. Told through drama, storytelling, poetry, contemporary dance and music, the play takes us on a journey through true stories of individuals and events before, during and after the community’s controversial expropriation. The play is also a homage to the religious faith that shaped the people and features a performance of The Last Sermon of Africville.

Cast: Celeste Bernard, Nathan Simmons, David Woods. Musical accompaniment Tracey Grouse, Owen Lee, Written and directed by David Woods
