While the Nova Scotia government has stated that anyone in the province over the age of 12 is able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, there remain ongoing barriers for migrants in the current vaccine roll-out plan. Such barriers reflect ongoing and pervasive gaps in health care access for migrants, including people without migration status, refugee claimants, international students and migrant workers.
Advocates and health experts are calling for immediate action to ensure a safe, accessible and just vaccine plan that leaves no one behind. A campaign video released on June 7th by the migrant justice organization No one is illegal – Halifax/Kjiputuk highlights widespread community support for vaccine access for all.
