Queer Doula Toolkit Launch event
June 17, 2021 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Like many spaces, healthcare is built upon a history and continuing legacy of providing ciscentric and heteronormative care. The systemic mistreatment of 2SLGBTQ+ people within the healthcare system carries over into pregnancy and birthing spaces, which can create experiences of alienation and trauma for queer birthing people and their families.
This project, along with the work of Wellness Within’s Queer Doula Training Program, aims to centre queer birth safety by contributing to queer birth education and increasing the number of queer-identified doulas in Nova Scotia.
Hosted by Wellness Within and NSPIRG

Since going live on June 3rd, the Queer Doula Toolkit has been downloaded and shared across Canada, the US and even the UK! While we are thrilled at the early feedback and support for this project, the lack of queer-centred doula and healthcare education has become glaringly obvious. In sharing our process and collaboration methods, we hope to inspire additional research and capacity for providing queer competent health care on a broader level.*Live ASL interpretation will be available*
