Inclusion Weekend Video

Weekend video: 29 hours

KJIPUKTUK (Halifax) – “Internationally a trans woman is killed every 29 hours.” This (very) short film  by Halifax filmmaker Stephanie Young reminds us that being a trans woman, and especially a trans woman of colour, means you are at high risk of becoming targeted in violent hate crimes.

Stephanie Young is an excellent filmmaker. This is the third film by her that we feature in the Weekend Video series.

With International Women’s Day just behind us this movie serves as a reminder that , as Young says,”when we talk about women’s issues, we should include trans women.”

Please support the Nova Scotia Advocate so that it can continue to cover issues such as poverty, racism, exclusion, workers’ rights and the environment in Nova Scotia. A pay wall is not an option, since it would exclude many readers who don’t have any disposable income at all. We rely entirely on one-time donations and a group of twenty or so dedicated monthly sustainers.
