PSA: More Powerful Together: Book Launch and Panel Discussion

Fernwood Publishing in partnership with The ENRICH Project presents the launch of More Powerful Together: Conversations With Climate Activists and Indigenous Land Defenders. This event will feature a keynote by the author, Dr. Jen Gobby, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Alex Khasnabish. The panel discussion will focus on issues of Migrant Justice, Climate/Environmental Justice, Indigenous Sovereignty and Land Back, the Movement for Black Lives, and ways to build stronger links between these different movements and struggles.

Media release: Schmidtville residents shocked at suggestion of cutting down trees for bike lanes

Media release: On October 13, 2020 a meeting of the Peninsula South Complete Streets Advisory Committee was exploring ways to make it possible for bike lanes to go through Morris Street in Schmidtville (the neighbourhood bounded by Clyde, Queen, South, Morris and Brenton Streets In downtown Halifax.) Among the possibilities mentioned by HRM staff to achieve this goal was the cutting down of up to 48 trees on Morris Street.

The Community Society to End Poverty on Halifax’s secondary and backyard suites proposal

Halifax Council held a three hour virtual public hearing on a proposal to allow allow basement apartments and backyard suites for single-family homes, townhouses and duplexes across the municipality. Stella Lord spoke on behalf of the Community Society to End Poverty, pushing back on expectations that the changes will provide substantial amounts of new affordable housing, while suggesting some more effective approaches.
