PSA: Tetra and Venus Envy participant call out

The Tetra Society of North America – Halifax is working with Venus Envy – Halifax on a project focusing on creating adaptive and innovative equipment for sexual practices.

We recognize that while the market for both sex toys and assistive devices has become more developed over the last decade, there is still a missing piece connecting them together. Inspired by the work of Drew Gurza and Heather Morrison on the that’s Handi project, and past conversations and requests about this need in our local community, we are looking to bridge the gap in creating assistive devices specifically meant for sex. We want to engage a team of disabled community members, inventors, carpenters, engineers, 3D printing and design specialists, and allies with an interest in sexuality and body mechanics to create a series of assistive devices that will help to create more accessible sexuality practices for the disabled community of Halifax.

We are currently looking for participants from the disability community to participate in the first phase of this project. We are looking for folks who are:

– 18 years of age or older

– Are comfortable discussing sexuality and sex practices (both in individual interview and larger group settings)

– Currently living in Halifax with a disability

** We are looking to prioritize the voices of people from intersecting marginalized communities, including Black, Indigenous and People of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, those living in long term care, and those holding marginalized religious and cultural identities.**

Volunteering for this project will entail:

– 3-5 individual or group interviews focusing on barriers and facilitators of sex practices, ideas for adaptive and innovative devices, and experiences with prototype devices

– Testing out prototypes on your own time and reporting back

You will be compensated for your time by getting to keep any prototype products created for this project.

If you would like to participate in this project, please fill out the attached google form. We recognize that online forms can be challenging to complete for those with various disabilities. If you need assistance filling out the form, or have any other questions about the project, please email Rachele at rachele@venusenvy.ca or April at aprilruthhubbard@gmail.com and we would be happy to help you.
