Weekend video: Gary Borden, the first Black postman in New Waterford, Nova Scotia

KJIPUKTUK (Halifax) – A young Amaya Toliver interviews her great uncle, Gary Borden, the first Black mailman in New Waterford. Gary talks about moving from Sunnyville, Guysborough County, growing up in Whitney Pier, his long and varied career, the toll his job took on his body, on why in 2017 there was still no Black mailman working in Sydney. The video was produced by Africentric TV.

Nothing earth shattering. Just a very nice video. Check it out, it’s weekend, you’re allowed.

If you can, please support the Nova Scotia Advocate so that it can continue to cover issues such as poverty, racism, exclusion, workers’ rights and the environment in Nova Scotia. A paywall is not an option, since it would exclude many readers who don’t have any disposable income at all. We rely entirely on one-time donations and a tiny but mighty group of dedicated monthly sustainers.
