From the Facebook event:

On July 17th, join people across the country as we gather outside CBC headquarters from coast to coast to coast to demand that the CBC host a federal leaders’ debate on the climate crisis and a Green New Deal during the October election.

As our public broadcaster, the CBC has a moral obligation to make sure that every single person in Canada knows which of our leaders have a real plan to tackle the climate crisis.

We’re in a climate emergency. Fires, floods, and rising temperatures are already ravaging our communities. The government we elect in the 2019 election will lead us through four of the 11 remaining years scientists have given us to act on climate. Over 11 million people tune in to watch federal leaders’ debates during Canadian elections — and every one of them deserves to know which of our politicians has a real plan to tackle the biggest crisis of our time.

As our public broadcaster, funded by public money, the CBC has the power to organize a federal leaders’ debate and a responsibility to listen to the people. If enough of us take action on July 17th, we’ll give the CBC a clear mandate to host a leaders’ debate on climate change.

Thousands of people already support this demand. Over 10,000 people spoke up this summer to demand that Canada’s Leaders’ Debates Commission host a debate on climate change and a Green New Deal in October’s election. It’s working, but the Debates Commission can’t organize this debate on their own. With a broadcaster like the CBC on board, we can make sure a full debate on the climate crisis and Canada’s Green New Deal happens.

We have to act now as CBC officials finalize their plans for their elections coverage. That’s why, during the six o’clock news on July 17th, we will gather outside CBC studios across the country to send a clear message: Canada needs a federal leaders’ debate on climate change and a Green New Deal
