Weekend Video: Conviction (Trailer)

KJIPUKTUK (Halifax) – Last night I finally got to see the stunning and heart wrenching NFB documentary Conviction.

The documentary follows women (and a guard) incarcerated in the Burnside jail. It’s raw, and wonderful, all at the same time. Raw because of the cruelty of the prison system, wonderful because of the warmth and humanity the women continue to show, despite everything jail throws at them.

This weekend we feature the trailer for the documentary. The people behind the project are actively promoting the movie, and it is bound to appear if not at a theatre, certainly a library or community room near you.

Make sure you see it. And check out the Conviction website with lots of info on prisons, why we should get rid of them, and how you can help.

Conviction. Directed by Nance Ackerman, Ariella Pahlke, Teresa MacInnis. Produced by Annette Clarke.
