Thought we were done? Think again!
Halifax youth will plug into the world again this Friday.
“We haven’t gone away. We’re just getting started!” —Julia Sampson, Grade 12 student at Citadel High
Halifax students will be part of the next global climate strike this Friday, November 29
We will be one of the more than 3,000 strike locations worldwide that are officially registered with Fridays For Future, the international youth-led organization that is coordinating the event. That’s more locations than were registered for the September global climate strikes.
This global strike comes just days before the next UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Madrid (December 2–13). Greta Thunberg will be attending the conference; currently she’s making her transatlantic journey back to Europe in a catamaran.
Of course, November 29 is also Black Friday, a day notorious for consumer spending . We’ll be using this as an opportunity to draw attention to overconsumption and fast fashion and to educate the public on how to shop sustainably.
We’ll also be collecting clothing donations that we’ll distribute to local shelters and thrift stores.
We have some surprises in store too (pun intended), but you’ll have to show up to see for yourself. We promise you won’t be disappointed!
WHERE: start at Halifax Commons, behind the Oval Time: Noon on Friday
