PSA: Labour Day rally – Ten paid sick days for all!
PSA: Stephen McNeil has refused to work with the federal government to grant all workers access to paid sick leave. Now is the time to let the province know that we can’t fight COVID-19 without guaranteeing each worker in the province access to ten paid sick days a year.

Danny Cavanagh: Now is time for a government that’s committed to creating good jobs. A government willing to invest in more public services, services that working families need. A government that will help more people save for retirement so they can live their final years in dignity, not a hardship. The Community Society to End Poverty on Halifax’s secondary and backyard suites proposal
Halifax Council held a three hour virtual public hearing on a proposal to allow allow basement apartments and backyard suites for single-family homes, townhouses and duplexes across the municipality. Stella Lord spoke on behalf of the Community Society to End Poverty, pushing back on expectations that the changes will provide substantial amounts of new affordable housing, while suggesting some more effective approaches.
Shubenacadie Residential School designated a national historic site (video)
Yesterday the federal government announced that the site of the Shubenacadie Residential School has been designated a National Historic Site. “When you come here you can feel the spirits here, and feel the energy,” says Dorene Bernard in a moving short video.
Press release: Schools aren’t safe or ready for reopening
Press release: NSTU President Paul Wozney says schools are currently in a state of chaos and aren’t ready to welcome students back next week. He says the Regional Centres for Education (RCEs) and the Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial (CSAP) are entirely focused on trying to promote the government’s unsafe return to school plan to the public. As a result the basic things that should take place on the ground to prepare schools for learning just aren’t happening.
