Equity Watch, a Nova Scotia organization fighting harassment, bullying and discrimination at work, is holding a webinar attacking the proliferation of non-disclosure agreements in human rights settlements. These gag orders all too often protect offenders and subvert the public interest. Equity Watch condemned NDAs in its recent 52-page critique of the Nova Scotia human rights regime.

Our two special guests will be:

·       Prof. Julie Macfarlane, University of Windsor Law School, academic specialist in settlements and NDAs; campaigner for the ending of NDAs in universities and schools; author of Going Public: A Survivor’s Journey from Grief to Action.

·       Zelda Perkins, former assistant to filmmaker Harvey Weinstein, publicly broke the 20-year silence on her NDA, facing the risk of legal action, to talk about the case. She testified before the UK parliament to push legal change around NDAs; she works with Women and Equalities Committee and legal regulatory bodies to change how NDAs are structured within the law. A CBC news feature on Perkins and NDAs can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vz3djcbkStE.
