41,370 children, one in four, live in poverty in Nova Scotia. For children under six that number is actually almost one in three! Educators for Social Justice want child poverty to get the attention it deserves during the election campaign and at the voting booth.

On Monday August 2 Nova Scotia celebrates Natal Day – a day off with pay for the lucky 28% of workers who are represented by a trade union. But it’s likely a normal workday for the rest of us.

Going to work sick is bad for you, it’s bad for the people who sit next to you on the bus, and it’s bad for your co-workers. It’s also incredibly mean-spirited to force people to go to work sick.
Media release: Sierra Club Atlantic’s new Beyond Climate Promises report is calling for urgent action and accountability on climate change, forestry, and a just transition. Sierra Club Atlantic submitted the report to the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change last night as part of the public consultation on the Sustainable Development Goals Act and New Climate Change Plan for Clean Growth, which closed July 26.
This provincial election, students are presenting a vision for a just recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in Nova Scotia.

Embarrassment flooded over me when I realized that as a Black woman I had no idea what this day meant and why it was so important to our community.”
Wellness Within: An Organization for Health & Justice applauds the state of Minnesota for passing the Healthy Start Act, which will give incarcerated people who are pregnant the option of receiving pre- and post-natal care and giving birth in community settings. They will no longer be separated from their newborns shortly after birth. We urge Nova Scotia to implement a similar policy.
