KJIPUKTUK/HALIFAX: On August 28th at 2pm, community members will gather to demand justice for Kayla Borden, a local woman who one month ago was racially profiled and arrested by 6 Halifax Regional Police (HRP) Officers.
According to the event description, the gathering is focused on bringing joy, art, laughter and supported healing for the community, upon Kayla’s request. In addition, community members will have the opportunity to voice their experiences of harm with the HRP to seek justice and healing together.
The schedule for the event includes speeches and performances, as well as healing spaces such as reiki, heart resonance, tarot, stone and music healing.
This police incident takes place against the backdrop of recurring racist treatment of Black and Indigenous people in Halifax and globally.
Supporters are asked to write individual complaints regarding this incident to Police Superintendent Greg Mason, echoing demands here.
