MEDIA ADVISORY: Nova Scotia Policing Policy Working Group (NS PPWG) Circulates Survey to Candidates

About NS PPWG: NS PPWG is a coalition of organizations and citizens concerned with advancing legislative and policy reforms relevant to policing in the province.

Duration of Survey: September 8 – September 25, 2020

The purpose of the survey is to determine candidates’ stances on key issues related to policing, ahead of the upcoming municipal election on October 17, 2020. Topics covered in the survey range from the Calls for Justice from the Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, to the HRM budget and the delivery of policing services by the Halifax Regional Police and RCMP. The survey has been sent to all registered candidates for Mayor and Council.

Once the survey period is completed, candidates’ answers will be published online, to give residents a chance to make an informed decision when voting in the 2020 HRM municipal election. Residents are encouraged to confirm they are on the Voters’ List and make a plan to vote: https://www.halifax.ca/city-hall/elections.
